Hiking The Narrows at Zion

Luke took this shot of Steve hiking up the Virgin River in Zion National Park. Amazingly, two cameras, three cell phones, and three people survived the trek up the rocky river bed without full immersion. See what trouble we go to, to bring you these photographs?

Steve is waiting until we return home to prepare his photographs for publishing. I hadn’t realized how much post-location effort he puts in to refining them before deeming them artistically satisfactory. He crops, re-sizes, aligns, and adjusts color and sharpness, to re-create the image our eyes saw and the digital camera stored but doesn’t display immediately.

I’ve learned a lot on this trip, about photography and much more.
