Two games down, thirty years ago
Tonight, the Cleveland Cavaliers starring LeBron James face Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the National Basketball Association Finals. Cleveland is down 0-2 in the best of seven series.
That’s I know about this year’s NBA finals.
Happily, I have sons who work on informing me about basketball. And Maxwell tells me that ESPN.com today has a front page link to a page of memories about the 1977 Blazers, who came back from two games down to win the championship. Its title: Blaze of Glory. Even if you aren’t a basketball fan, it’s delightful, with phrases like, “In their first six seasons in the National Basketball Association, the Blazers had not won so much as a toaster oven at a church raffle.” I love sports sarcasm.
Maxwell further informs me that the main difference between the 1977 Blazers and today’s Cleveland team is that the Cavs have practically no chance of winning the series. And that no, he is not going to write a Guest Post for me. So that’s it from me, on basketball. Enjoy the game and the ESPN post, Blazer fans. I’ll be in the kitchen making the nachos and counting the days to the start of the football season. It’s 80 to August 31, for my nephew’s first game as starting quarterback for his high school; 81 to the Ducks’ home opener.
