Layers of perception
This photograph illustrates the complexity of life in Portland, to me. So many levels, from the obvious mountain with the blue sky and sunshine above, on down through the fog to the details at ground level in the city – including the man-made smoke and nature’s trees. Each piece makes it more interesting, and the whole beautiful, complicated, challenging, and never dull.
Some people keep their eyes on the mountain and don’t seem to realize there are people choking on the fumes under the fog. Others work so hard on the streets and in the buildings, they never stop to smell the trees and turn their faces to the sunshine above the clouds. Sunday can be a day to restore the balance.
