New Orleans – all fixed, as seen on TV
Earlier this evening, we watched the New Orleans Saints win through to the NFC championship game, beating the Philadelphia Eagles at the refurbished Superdome. Someone in our household is mourning the Eagles loss; I’ve learned over the years that the less said about such things, the better. “Man Law” is clear that a fan of the losing team does NOT respond well to comments such as, “it’s only a game”. I know that, and I still said it, so now I’ve sent myself to my room to blog, with no dessert.
So let me try this as more important: Looking at street scenes in New Orleans, and the vistas of the city outside of the stadium etc., shown on TV, we are given the impression that everything is fine in Louisiana. No need to worry, all back to normal, nothing to see here, carry on about your business, case closed.
Which I find interesting and troubling, given this eyewitness report, with photographs, by Portland’s own Frank Dufay. He titled it “apres-le-deluge”, or after the flood, and posted it during a visit just this past August. Take a look. Either an amazing amount of repair work has happened between then and now, or not everything you see on “live” TV is quite as it seems. I know which I believe.
