Spring is on the way
The columbines aren’t out yet, of course, but some early crocus flowers are blooming in my lawn. The fuzzy catkins on the willows and filberts are bursting out, too. We’re supposed to hold off on pruning the roses until Presidents’ Day, but it’s very tempting on a day like today. Cut back one third, and any dead wood, if you can’t wait.
I’m so glad we don’t still live in Rochester, NY, where today they’re expecting another 3 to 5 inches of snow, and the wind chill is 5 degrees. When we were there, we had a snowstorm of three feet in two days. Their Lilac Festival is Memorial Day weekend, at the end of May. My lilacs here are about ready to start their display in a week or two.
I love the Pacific Northwest.
