What’s next for Linnton?

Last year, the Portland City Council overturned years of neighborhood planning, and the Planning Commission’s recommendation, in refusing to allow mixed use housing and commercial development on a vacant site in Linnton. “Not safe”, they said. This despite the fact that there are currently more than 450 homes in Linnton.

So what’s next for Linnton residents? Rumor has it Metro is considering the old mill site for a garbage transfer dump, and the City of Portland is looking to locate a biodiesel refinery there. Neither of those is quite what the neighbors were hoping for, in seeking a walkable riverside community focal center. “At this point, getting a Costco would be seen as a huge improvement”, I’ve heard more than one resident comment.

Have a nice life, Linnton neighbors – except apparently, your elected officials may have other plans.
