Empty cross

Steve took this photograph inside the Colosseum in Rome. Completed in 80 A.D., the Colosseum was threatened with demolition by Sixtus V, Pope from 1585-1590, who wanted to turn the site into a woollen factory. The building was declared a sacred monument dedicated to the Passion of Christ by Benedict XIV, who caused the bronze cross to be placed on a pedestal as a symbol of the sufferings of all Christian martyrs.

Empty cross, empty tomb…. the rest is history.
