Balanced Rock, Idaho

We traveled about an hour out of our direct route from Boise, Idaho to Wendover, Nevada, to see this rock. We all agreed it was well worth it, although I nearly had a heart attack scrambling up the scree slope in 95 degree sunshine, and Luke nearly drove off the road he laughed so hard when I told Ali on the phone that the “GIS lady” was telling us the route. I don’t think the difference between GIS (Global Information System, which is what planning maps use) and GPS (Global Positioning System, the satellite-guided tracking devices) is that extreme or funny. Steve and Luke found it hilarious, and I’m glad to have provided entertainment.

Anyway, back to the rock – here’s Luke at the top, in front of it, with the beautiful Idaho sky behind him:

A couple more photos from Idaho will be posted later today. Sunday, we’re driving past Salt Lake City to Moab, Utah.
