Been there, done that, got the t-shirt

This is us – my older son Luke and me – at the Four Corners – the point on Navajo lands where the four states of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado intersect. It is purely and honestly a tourist spot – there’s just the centerpiece with the flags, surrounded by booths selling souveniers. I think it’s funny how it looks like there’s only the two of us there, where in fact there was a line of people facing us waiting for their turn to take photographs looking like there’s nobody else there. We loved the place. Everyone, tourists and vendors, seemed to revel in the place being entirely devoted to being there, doing that, and buying the t-shirt.

Today, Luke returns from a month’s study abroad in London. He says the professors worked them hard and he feels he earned the ten credits. And that while he’s had a wonderful time, he’ll be glad to be home, “back to reality”. Kinda like starting the work week, huh? Except perhaps we’re not all quite so glad to be back to it.
