Mayor Potter’s excellent OpEd on immigration

Thanks to Scott Moore at Mercury Blogtown, I can now post a link to Portland Mayor Tom Potter’s stirring column published in Sunday’s Oregonian. It speaks for itself, eloquently. I’ve been searching for the text since Sunday – I didn’t think of checking PortlandOnLine as I haven’t had much luck finding pertinent, recent information there. I find it interesting that the O didn’t post a link to the Mayor’s comments on Sunday’s web site, and I still can’t find one on their site.

Mayor Potter’s OpEd shows once again that he truly cares about people – no matter what their color, national origin, or other demographic characteristics. His questions in the Streetcar discussion this morning were often about the passengers who would use it, and how decisions are made, rather than specifics of funding choices. I greatly appreciate his approach. If choices are made to develop the built environment, without thinking about the people who live in it, what kind of city will we live in?
