The wreck of the Peter Iredale

Over a century after the wreck of the Peter Iredale, its remains still rest in the waves on the shore at Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria. The park is a great place, with camping, yurts, sand dunes, and a wonderful beach.

Here’s a link to a photograph at the Oregon Historical Society, taken on November 13, 1906, nineteen days after the ship ran aground near Fort Stevens. All twenty-seven crew members were saved by lifeboats from Point Adams.
