Solitude in the desert
This is the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. By Friday, the scene in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada will look nothing like this. Steve left Sunday evening to drive 11 hours through the night to Burning Man, arriving (he hopes) in time to set up his camp before the forecasted 20-30 mph winds start up. Up to 40,000 people are expected to journey to the playa to participate in the event. “Participate” being the operative word, since one of the expectations is “no spectators”. This year, Steve is an official photographer. As of last night, the very first image on the official Burning Man site is one of Steve’s – see this link if they’ve updated it. Being official means the entrance fee of several hundred dollars was waived, and it’s recognized that taking his photographs is participating not spectating. Expect some interesting shots here on his return. In the meantime, I’ll be posting relevant images all week.
