Oregon AFL-CIO Buy Union and Do Not Patronize lists
The NW Labor Press reported in August that the Oregon AFL-CIO has added Circuit City to its Unfair/Do Not Patronize List. The American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is the biggest coalition of America’s unions, with membership of some 10 million working women and men nationwide in 55 member unions.
In March, Circuit City fired 3,400 workers because they had worked their way up the pay scale. The jobs were then re-advertized at the starting rate of about $8/hour. The average Circuit City worker makes $10-11 per hour. CEO Philip Schoonover reportedly made $8.52 million in 2006.
