Holly Farm Park opening
Portland’s newest park has its official opening event tomorrow, Saturday September 15, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. – it looks a lot different today compared with this photograph taken during construction. Come check it out and celebrate with us! Holly Farm Park is located on SW Capitol Highway between Comus and Dickinson, adjacent to the Multnomah County Library. It was purchased, designed, and improved by a wonderful partnership between the Portland Parks Foundation, Portland Parks & Recreation (PPR), and the West Portland Park Neighborhood Association, with the support of literally hundreds more individuals and groups. I was one of the Neighborhood Association volunteers who first identified the site as a potential place for a park during the Southwest Community Plan process, and I’m totally thrilled to see our dreams become reality in less than 15 years.
The opening celebration will fit our neighborhood – open, friendly, and informal. Just a few short speeches, and lots of fun. Trailblazer rookie Taurean Green (two time National College champion with Florida, so Maxwell tells me) will attend, and there will be activities for all ages as well as a skateboarding demonstration. Refreshments (donated by local businesses) and guided tours will be available. You are welcome to join the festivities — please come, to thank those who gave huge amounts of time, money, and energy to this project, and to celebrate!
