Tree hugging in the Black Rock desert

If you’re on the playa where there are no trees, you have to bring or make your own. This is the first of a series of artwork images from the 2007 Burning Man event, which I’ll be posting over the next several days.

Going out on a limb here (hehehe), I think hugs are good. I prefer the ones between two humans, but this image captures some of the feeling. Maxwell and Ali’s first grade teacher taught a song about hugs, with part of the chorus saying, “Four hugs a day, that’s the minimum, four hugs a day, not the maximum”. There are some people who aren’t huggers…. the children also learned in grade school about “stay in your own bubble”, i.e., not invading others’ personal space. But I maintain my highly controversial position: Hugs are good.
