Tending my garden, cheering the Ducks

The weather was much too lovely this weekend in Portland to spend time indoors blogging. I mowed the grass (the push mower fell apart just as I finished, so I hope we’ve reached the end of the growing season) and hacked back the native plants growing out into the street. And I picked another batch of blackberries, and made pies. I hope you were similarly occupied by pursuits other than sitting at your computer.

How ’bout them Ducks? I was a bit worried in the second quarter that maybe Jeff Merkley should have taken on Steve Novick’s wager on the outcome of the Oregon-Stanford football game, after all, but Coach Bellotti must have given a memorable half time speech. Exciting play from Portlanders Andiel Brown, a 2003 graduate of Cleveland High School who earned his way onto the Oregon team as a walk-on, and Matt Evansen out of Franklin High School. Checking through the roster, I’m not sure how much playing time right guard Jon Teague has been getting on the Ducks’ offensive line – the o line seldom getting the attention and respect it deserves. He graduated in 2004 from David Douglas High School.

Anyone want to make a prediction about whether the Ducks will beat California at Autzen this next Saturday?
